I hate being bored, but there are no real stories in this before. I doubt that any announcement will come as long as that third-party site is not filled. There have never been more complaints after the initial success of the behind-the-scenes performances that remain the most secretive secret in the entire program – meaning that Kahil Fennell has been promoted to one of the assistant coaches with Taylor Barnette thought to be a potential replacement for Fennell as basketball director.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello first mentioned the Indiana Kenya Hunter assistant as an opportunity in the Floyd Street’s Finest podcast, and then Hunter’s name suddenly appeared everywhere. Hunter interviewed Chris Mack before deciding to stay in Bloomington and join Mike Woodson’s staff in Indiana. Another name – former Penn State assistant Keith Urgo – appeared at the beginning of the process, but I have never heard of him in a while. Former Cincinnati coach John Brannen, one of Mack’s closest friends, was a hot topic on the message boards and I mentioned him in the brochure, but that doesn’t mean anything.
Mack is in no hurry to complete the final opening for his staff, especially since the epidemic has disrupted the recruitment cycle, making it urgent to seek another assistant. He’ll need to replenish his staff before the summer workout, of course, but he has time. I know there are a lot of interested assistants in the area who can be contacted by mediators, but that hasn’t played to my knowledge. It’s just a matter of finding the right thing Mack wants from his employees.

-The NCAA has hit USC sanctions with a trial of a few years but no postseason for its role in the FBI investigation into college basketball.
This marks the second straight case (South Carolina is one) where the NCAA offender committee chose not to go with the post-season ban. Given that the committee beat Oklahoma State with a post-season ban (which could be reversed at appeal) for a very similar case to the last two, it is hard to imagine that the NCAA was somehow responding to the sprint that many programs, including Louisville, have made IARP last year.
Speaking of IARP, are we convinced that this thing really exists? It begins to feel more and more like a design that produces a great tone with investors early on, and then two years later it reveals that it really didn’t do anything.
I can’t wait to be done with all of this when I’m 50 years old.
